(the Christian Science Bible Lesson for December 3, 2017)

Hope you enjoy them! Warren Huff

Warren’s (W’s) PS#1—Cobbey Crisler on Ps. 107 (B2/B7/B22) Pay your bill! Give praise
“I'm going to give you an assignment in Psalm 107 because it's a very rewarding one to work with. In the first 22 verses, for example, when you are studying this independently at home, work out the steps that are being given us, the symptoms, the appointment with the Great Physician, the treatment, the complete remedy, and then paying your bill. That happens to be a refrain, "Pay your bill. Pay your bill." In this particular Psalm, in Verse 8, [and Verses 15, 21, 31] "Oh that [men] would praise the LORD [for] his goodness, and [for] his wonderful works to the children of men!" Follow that all the way through and you'll find three different sets of prescriptions and treatments that can be quite relevant to our own experience.”

[Woman's question on audio unclear except for "symptoms"] “The appointment with the Great Physician and then, of course, when you're in front of the Physician, that's face-to-face, seeing God's face, get the treatment, let His face shine upon thee, then the remedy, go out and have the prescription filled. The remedy solves the whole problem; then pay your bill. Follow that through and see what comes.”

W’s PS#2—Cobbey Crisler on Ps. 67:2 and saving health among all nations
“Verse 2 of Psalm 67 is the prophecy that God'sway will be known upon earth,"and this is what we all said together at the beginning of this session. "Thy saving health among" what? A limited number? ''All nations." No wonder the Bible could not close without that magnificent reminder that the leaves of the tree were not just for healing individuals, but for all nations. The medicine for international discord is on that tree.

Just as it is for our own relationship problems. What's a relationship problem [other] than a disease? Something's not relating in our body. Look to our thought. Have we left relationship problems unsolved? Do you know when Jesus would not accept worship from his Christian followers when they (we) bring a gift to the altar? If you remember ought that you have against your brother or ‘vice versa,' don't even bother to give your gift in the environment of church. Church stands for healed relationships. No relationship problems. All things working together for good. Leave your gift behind. It's imperfect. It's incomplete. Go solve the relationship problem with your brother first, then bring your gift to church. That shows that healed relationship problems are the only satisfactory gift to church endorsed by the founder of the Christian Church.”

W’s PS#3—Cobbey Crisler on Matt. 14:14 (B16) Jesus’ compassion that enabled him to heal, feed 1000s and walk on water:
Matthew 14: “(Verse 13, before the verse in the lesson). Jesus hearing that John the Baptist had been beheaded, decides to make himself scarce, leaves into a desert place apart.
(Verse 14). “But the multitudes followed him.” Instead of saying, “Look, will you let a man be alone for once,” he turned around with compassion and healed their sick.”
Verse 15-20). And out comes the famous loaves-and-fishes incident in which everyone is fed, with a balance left over despite the fact that we’re dealing with thousands of people. …
And, right after this (Verses 24-33) we have the walking-on-the-sea incident.”

W’s PS#4— Cobbey Crisler on Luke 8:43-48 (B17) setting the stage for how the woman who had been hemorrhaging for 12 years was healed by touching the hem or wings of Jesus’ garment. “The woman… is at the absolute desperate end of a rope. Here we find the receptivity. Blessed are those are in this state. Happy are those because the state of mind can be changed.
“This radical change of thought was in the presence of the Christ-correction that Jesus was exercising in the mental realm. It’s going to be sufficient and the woman feels that it will help her. She’s lost all her money on physicians. [No health insurance…] Mark even tells us that she’s worse because of that choice. [Mark 5:26] All she does is touch the border of his garment. The issue of blood, the continuous hemorrhaging that had occurred for twelve years had kept her out of the temple, kept her out of worship and made her as unclean as the lepers…
“In Luke 8, Verse 48 he calls that lady, “Daughter.” Who’s daughter? Certainly, not his. In fact, he lifts that word “daughter” entirely out of any sense of blood relationship. That was the woman’s problem. He lifts even her identity out of blood.
“Daughter, be of good comfort” (Verse 48). Look at how he’s addressing the thought of that woman. Not only the precious relationship to God, but the comfort. She hasn’t experienced that in twelve years. She’d lost all her money. She was about to be thrown on the society. There was nowhere to go when you were thrown on society. That may have happened to the woman who had been a sinner. Prostitution was the only open career for many women when they were simply thrown out and discarded from normal humanity…
Jesus refuses to allow that woman to walk away from the scene thinking that physical contact with his robe had anything to do with the healing. He says, again, “Your faith hath made you whole.” The word “whole” and the word “heal” in Anglo-Saxon have the identical root. It implies that disease is something less than wholeness, that it is a fragmentation of our being. Healing is the condition of being made whole.”
Luke the Researcher, B. Cobbey Crisler

[Warren’s background note: In Numbers 15:38-40, God tells Moses to have Hebrew men attach fringes to the wings of their prayer shawl garments —like the one pictured in Download 1—to remind them to abide by God’s commandments and to ‘be holy unto your God’ (Numbers 15:40). The woman healed of her 12-year issue was rewarded for exercising her faith that Christ Jesus was fulfilling this prophesy about him in Malachi: “But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; (Mal. 4:2). Many others in Jesus’ day were also rewarded for exercising their faith in Jesus being the fulfillment of the scriptural promise of the healing power connected to the keeping of God’s law… Mark 6:56 records about Christ Jesus’ healing that “whithersoever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.” (or “perfectly whole” in the account in Matthew 14:36) Here’s to perfect wholeness for you thanks to your faithful following of the science of the Christ as expounded and fulfilled in God’s laws and Decalogue.]

W’s PS#6—Cobbey Crisler on Psalm 33:9 (B23) and the speed of God’s treatment
“Psalms Chapter 33, Verse 9, we've already alluded to. The swiftness of God's treatment.

It’s not a process, according to the Bible. It’s not recuperation. It’s not convalescence, or gradual recovery. "He spake, and it was [done]." In case we have had room in our thinking for a possibility of relapse, it is stated, "He commanded, and it stood fast.” No side effects, no after effects.”
