For many high school students, a top summer priority is to take an SAT prep or college readiness course.  Why not accomplish this important work at CedarS, where you are surrounded by supportive friends, seen as unlimited by our instructors, and where you get to experience a fun camp activity or two each day?  At CedarS, you’ll learn more about your higher Source of intelligence and your divine right to accuracy, test-taking dominion, and effective communication.

Spend your afternoons in an air-conditioned classroom increasing your SAT, ACT, and/or TOEFL scores, improving your writing skills, and learning to read more critically and comprehensively.

Spend your mornings enjoying a fun mix of camp activities, from horseback riding, to swimming (lessons provided as needed), to cable ski, to soccer scrimmages, to learning basic mechanical and fix-it skills, to teambuilding and group problem-solving challenges. Those enrolling 2nd Session can participate in Soccer Camp and Aerial Arts when in the mornings and College Prep in the afternoons.

During the evenings, join in the all-camp hymn sing and testimony meetings, as well as enjoying bonding opportunities with your cohort.

This program will be collaboratively staffed by an expert professional instructor and CedarS counselors. Open to domestic and international students alike.

Tuition:

$850/week for full program or College Prep + Sports Camp Combo

$525/week for College Prep + CedarS Crew Combo

Generous financial aid available, as needed.

Camper Outcomes:

  • Campers will improve their question recognition, test-taking skills, and overall SAT and/or TOEFL test scores.
  • Campers will improve their academic writing skills in the areas of understanding how to analyze and address the elements of a writing prompt, learning several key “moves” made by successful college writers, paraphrasing and quoting effectively, and improving their sentence construction.
  • Campers will develop enhanced close reading skills in the areas of reading academic texts for key information, interacting with a text through strategic highlighting and note-taking, and selecting which parts of a text to focus on when time does not allow for a complete reading.

Instructor Bio:

Bonnie (Bosak) Staudt is a high school English teacher who has worked with students in the St. Louis area for 15 years. She graduated with her education degree from Principia College; earned graduate degrees in curriculum, English, and gifted education; and received numerous teaching awards, including Teacher of the Year for her school district. Bonnie attended camp for 15 years, starting as a main camper, becoming a counselor, and serving as Staff Development Director.

This summer, she will guide campers with her enthusiastic and warm approach along with her experience teaching various levels of English courses, including Advanced Placement; proctoring the ACT; helping students prepare for standardized multiple-choice exams; working through the college application process; and improving writing for college composition classes. Bonnie is thrilled to meet campers where they are as they demonstrate increasing comfort with their college preparatory skills and/or English, becoming stronger writers, readers, and thinkers as students and as metaphysicians!
