Promptly and Persistently Reject All Fakes and Embrace Your Spiritual Substance!
Metaphysical Ideas for the Christian Science Bible Lesson on “SUBSTANCE”
by Angela Larsen, CS of O’Fallon, MO
[with bracketed italics by Warren Huff]

Editor’s Note: The following application ideas for this week and the Possible Sunday School Topics that follow are offered primarily to help CEDARS campers and staff (as well as friends) see and demonstrate the great value of daily study and application of the Christian Science Bible lessons year-round, not just at camp! You can sign up to have them emailed to you free — in English by Monday each week, or by each Wednesday you can get a FREE TRANSLATION in French from Pascal or in Spanish from Ana. SUMMARY
You’ve probably heard that counterfeit currency or fake diamonds are easily detected when someone is so familiar with the authentic that the imitation reveals itself immediately for what it is. This Lesson will help us be experts in what is real, valuable, good and health/wealth-giving so that we recognize and embrace it; and so that we can just as readily reject the fake, misleading and worthless.

GOLDEN TEXT
The first thing we need to do before we even get into the Lesson on Substance is to look through the right lens in order to see it. This text from Hebrews is telling us what substance is and what we need to do to experience, or see it. If you were to lift a heavy box, someone might say “Use your legs!” because you’ll get more strength and stability that way. This text from Hebrews is reminding us to exercise our faith “muscle” (which is a quality of [divine] Mind, as we’ll learn in the first section of the Lesson–S&H marker 3). Faith is the only way by which we can see substance. We can’t see it, hear it, taste it, smell it, or touch it with the material senses because it is spiritual.

The RESPONSIVE READING tells us all the many things that others have seen and experienced through exercising their spiritual sense of faith (let’s call it their faith faculty), and of what we can expect (Hebrews 11:3). It is through exercising our faith faculty that “we can understand life as God’s gift and see the world about us as his creation.” (Interpreter’s One Volume Commentary on the Bible) We even get a definition of what this faith is: “[1] he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [2] that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6) Hmm, interesting. Faith includes not only believing that God exists, but also that He is faithful to us (=a rewarder of them that diligently seek him). “Blind faith” would be the kind of faith that is only a half-faith, one that believes that God is, but neglects the other equally important half–that of believing with an expectant heart that He will cause us to experience the benefits of substance!
Be alert to all the seeing that goes on in this Lesson!

SECTION 1 – “Substance is Spirit”
The Lesson gets right to the point: Only what God, Spirit, “says” exists actually exists. (Bible, marker 1 – John 1:1,2). This ties in perfectly with the first verse in the Responsive Reading, translated in the New Living Translation this way: “By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command [Word], that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen” (Hebrews 11:3). The Scriptures liken God as Spirit to the wind. Have you ever heard anyone say “Don’t waste your breath” as a way of saying don’t speak? God’s Word is the wind, it is His breath.  We can’t see the wind, but we see the effects of it; the same is true of Spirit, God and His Word. Marker 1 in Science and Health states, “Spirit, God, has created all in and of Himself. Spirit never created matter” and then, “Spirit is the only substance…” (335:1-2, 12). Towards the end of this section, we are posed a question: “Which ought to be substance to us,–the erring, changing, and dying, the mutable and mortal”–the “flesh” as Bible marker 3, John 3:6 has it– “or the unerring, immutable, and immortal?” (278:32) This question is about to be answered in the subsequent sections! In the rest of the Lesson, let’s look for substance as unerring, immutable (unchanging and unchangeable) and immortal (incapable of death, independent of time, wholly apart from matter).

SECTION 2 – The erring Adam dream is not substance
Here’s God’s Word in action again: “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness…” (Bible Marker 5, Gen. 1:26) Man=you and I, are breathed into being through Spirit, which means we are the spiritual idea (=image), born of the Spirit (see Jesus’ whole discussion with Nicodemus on being born of the Spirit, John 3:1-20, part of which is in the first section, Marker 3). The inverted, perverted dream (more like nightmare!) version of this is found in Genesis 2 and 3 where first (instead of the baptismal water Jesus tells Nicodemus about), a mist arises, and then the Lord God Jehovah’s breath has to pass through matter, dust, to take effect: “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” The result of this muddy chemistry experiment was the Adam man. He is no match for God’s real man; but to be fair, it isn’t his fault…the authors didn’t make him that way!   One of Mrs. Eddy’s definitions of this “Adam” is “error” (S&H 579:15) and the root meaning of the word “error” is to wander. It’s no wonder then, that Adam can’t be found because he is wandering; the Lord God has to call out to him, “Where ARE you??” (Marker 9, Gen. 3:9) Not exactly a good “shout-out.” This kind of wandering, searching for substance outside of Spirit, constitutes the Adam dream. If we aren’t awake to see the true substance that’s right in front of our nose (cease…from man whose breath is in his nostrils! – Marker 8, Isa. 2:22), we may find ourselves 1) naked (=weak, vulnerable, ashamed, guilty: “the falsity of error”–S&H Marker 4) and 2) afraid (=fear, disease, sin: “the effects of error.” S&H 273:30)
[This “atmosphere of mortal mind” is to be “opposed promptly and persistently by Christian Science.” —S&H 273:30  To reach the “atmosphere of Love divine” (CedarS’ 2009 metaphysical goal from Hymn 144), please join us a Positive (Mental) “Climate Change Workshop” –see the end. ]

SECTION 3 – Substance is harmonious and our consciousness of it is eternal!
You’ve probably heard–and it’s probably been repeated in these Mets!–that understanding can be broken down into two parts: sub [under] and stance [standing]. Substance and understanding, then, are not only closely related, they are synonymous!  The second day of creation God formed the firmament, which was the division of the waters, called “Heaven” (Gen. 1:6-9). Mrs. Eddy tells as that this firmament is understanding (see page 505 in Science and Health). She also tell us that heaven is harmony (587:25) and earth is eternal and immortal (585:5); notice how many times she uses “harmonious and eternal” together in her writings. She is referencing heaven and earth.  They cannot be separated.   As in heaven, so on earth (S&H 17:2)…the harmony that is heaven is ours on earth; earth is our present (eternal now) and forever manifestation of heaven.  Our substance is our understanding of this fact. In Marker 10, Mark 1:14,15, Jesus proclaimed the gospel or “good news” of the presence of heaven.  We don’t have to die to experience heaven!  God doesn’t have to breathe life into matter!  There’s no process!  There’s no waiting!   The express lane is open!   If it feels like we are struggling with some lesser version of reality, all we have to do (and this isn’t anything new, remember the Responsive Reading?) is to change our minds [repent] and believe [have faith that God exists AND that He is a rewarder…) the good news [substance]! The perfect summary of “as in heaven, so on earth” is found in S&H Marker 10, “All that really exists is the divine Mind [heaven] and its idea [earth], and in this Mind [heaven] the entire being [earth] is found harmonious [heaven] and eternal [earth]” (151:26-28). Be conscious of how this applies to you, right now, right where you are!  It is humbling and exhilarating!  And it
heals.

SECTION 4 – Take heart, your real substance is in the activity of Spirit
This section opens with the Psalmist crying out, “My heart throbs,” “My heart beats wildly,” and “My heart’s about to break” (Marker 13, Psalms 38:10, English Standard Version, New Living Translation and The Message, respectively…love that Essential Evangelical Parallel Bible!) These different translations each give a different sense of Psalmist’s meaning. We get a sense of great fear, great emotion or great devastation. These are figurative meanings, but we can also get a sense of physical trouble or disease as well. If our heart is figuratively broken, we can’t function in society (and it’s hard to imagine a worse feeling!), and if it’s literally broken, the notion is that we cease to function totally! But this section assures us that we can “be of good courage” (Marker 14, Psalms 31:24) and “hope” (or expect, wait on=have faith) in God because he is our strength (substance), not an organ (or human organization/relationship). When you look at the words “body” or “organ,” like the word “heart,” they can have broader meanings. Sometimes when I see the word “body” I mentally substitute the words “relationship” or “business” or “church.” For example, Marker 13: “A material [relationship] only expresses a material and mortal mind. A mortal man possesses this [relationship], and he makes it harmonious or discordant according to the images of thought impressed upon it” (208:25-29). It is quite heartening to know that Spirit, substance, is the “source of all life and action” (Marginal heading, 283:6); seeing that fills our whole experience with light (Marker 15, Matthew 6:21-23).

SECTION 5 – Knowing is substance and replaces belief
Get out a piece of paper and your favorite writing utensil and make a list of all the “knowing” words and phrases in this section (for example, renewing of mind, prove, understand/ing, etc). These power phrases are substance and the activity of substance (remember “understanding” as substance?) I love this translation of Marker 19, Romans 12:1,2 from J.B. Phillips, “With eyes wide open to the mercies of God, I beg you, my brothers, as an act of intelligent worship, to give him your bodies, as a living sacrifice, consecrated to him and acceptable by him. Don’t let the world around you squeeze you into its own mould, but let God re-make you so that your whole attitude of mind is changed. Thus you will prove in practice that the will of God is good, acceptable to him and perfect.” Isn’t that phrase “intelligent worship” fantastic? It’s reminiscent of the kind of full-hearted faith we’ve been learning about in this Lesson! (Look how beautifully it corresponds, especially to Marker 19 in Science and Health.) And what a relief to be released from that constant heavy, oppressive feeling of being “squeezed” into the world’s mold. What freedom, health and wealth there is to be found in substance!

SECTION 6 – Substance is having the mind of Christ
One of the many, many noteworthy things about the Christ power is the authority (Bible Marker 21) it has, not only to declare good, but to “cast out evil spirits, or false beliefs” (S&H Marker 21, 79:17). Mrs. Eddy tells us that all disease is mental (which takes great discipline to remember when you’re severely tempted to look at a physical picture of malfunction or discord!); and since all disease is mental, we are always dealing with some form of insanity when dealing with disease (Bible Marker 21)! When we get clear that our intelligence as true substance can’t be found in “a pulpy substance under the skull” (S&H Marker 22, 192:1), then “the mechanism of the human mind gives place to the divine Mind, [and] selfishness and sin, disease and death, will lose their foothold.” (S&H Marker 25, 176:13). The word “mechanism” in the Students’ Reference Dictionary is defined in part as “action of a machine.” [See “mental mechanism” as part of CedarS 2009 metaphysical theme quoted in endnote i]  We know that machines don’t have intelligence (it’s true, not even iPhones); now compare this to the notion of a human brain–it is quite literally artificial intelligence. This is not the mind of God’s idea; God’s idea has the mind of Christ: “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.” (Marker 20 from Amplified Bible II Tim. 1:7; for once the brackets and parentheses aren’t from us!). We are never unconscious of substance, never dreaming the Adam dream of insanity; we have the wide-awake mental capacity and authority of the Christ!

SECTION 7 – Substance doesn’t decay; it is immutable
Silver and gold don’t heal, which is a good thing, because it appears many are low currency lately! You know the CS-culture adage that having less time is a good thing because time is a “mortal measurement”? [S&H 595:17] I would add to that, being low on money can’t be so bad either if it’s just another mortal measurement. HOWEVER, what we are NEVER low on is substance. Peter had plenty and, although he said to the lame man who asked for a material hand-out that he didn’t have that, he immediately gave what he did have: his understanding of true substance! (Marker 22, Acts 3:1-10). Peter and John had the mind of Christ (in the name=nature of Jesus Christ, Peter commanded the man to rise up and walk) and so healed the man who had been crippled from birth.   Wasn’t this man crippled by the belief that he was born from a material womb, much like Jehovah breathing into material nostrils?   We have learned that heart, organs and brain aren’t substance and this section adds that bones aren’t substance either.  So our affections, intelligence and structure aren’t material; or as Mrs. Eddy so perfectly defines the profound, scientific statement of being, “There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation…” (S&H 468:8-15); the lesson closes with the lines that follow the Scientific Statement of Being that reiterate the fact that “The spiritual universe, including individual man, is a compound idea, reflecting the divine substance of Spirit” (Marker 29, 468:22). The compound (affections, intelligence and structure) idea of you is the reflection (the thinking upon) of Spirit, so rejoice that your whole experience is nothing more or less than the eternal manifestation of heavenly substantial good!

[i] [CedarS 2009 metaphysical focus is to actively promote a positive climate change to the “atmosphere of Love divine” (CS Hymnal #144) by sharing the ingredients of love with “a little more grace, a motive made pure, a few truths tenderly told, a heart softened, a character subdued, a life consecrated, (that) would restore the right action of the mental mechanism, and make manifest the movement of body and soul in accord with God.” (Miscellaneous Writings 354:15) Hurray: #1) “that the atmosphere of the human mind, when cleansed of self and permeated with divine Love, will reflect this purified subjective state in clearer skies, less thunderbolts, tornadoes, and extremes of heat and cold;” and #2) “that agriculture, manufacture, commerce, and wealth should be governed by honesty, industry, and justice, reaching out to all classes and peoples.   For these signs of our times we thank our Father-Mother God.” Miscellany 265:24-30 You are invited to also join us in the listening to Benzamin Family’s cassette tape, “The Greatest Gift is love,” and studying Henry Drummond’s The Greatest Thing in the World -both inspired by Paul’s writing on love in I Corinthians 13.]

Camp Director’s Note: This sharing is the latest in an ongoing, 8-year series of CedarS Bible Lesson “mets” (metaphysical application ideas) contributed weekly by a rotation of CedarS Resident Practitioners and occasionally by other metaphysicians. (To keep the flow of the practitioner’s ideas intact and to allow for more selective printing the “Possible Sunday School Topics” come on a following page or subsequent email.) This weekly offering is intended to encourage further study and application of ideas in the lesson and to invigorate Sunday School participation by students and by the budding teachers on our staff. Originally sent JUST to my Sunday School students and to campers, staff and CedarS families who wanted to continue at home and in their home Sunday Schools the same type of focused Lesson study, application and inspiration they had felt at camp, CedarS lesson “mets” are in no way meant to be definitive or conclusive or in any way a substitute for daily study of the lesson. The thoughts presented are the inspiration of the moment and are offered to give a bit more dimension, background and new angles on daily applicability to some of the ideas and passages being studied. The weekly Bible Lessons are copyrighted by the Christian Science Publishing Society and are printed in the Christian Science Quarterly as available at Christian Science Reading Rooms or online at eBibleLesson.com or myBibleLesson.com. The citations referenced (i.e. B1 and S28) from this week’s Bible Lesson in the “met” (metaphysical application ideas) are taken from the King James Version of the Bible (B1-24) and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health With Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. (S1-30) The Bible and Science and Health are the ordained pastor of the Churches of Christ, Scientist. The Bible Lesson is the sermon read in Christian Science church services throughout the world. The Lesson-Sermon speaks individually through the Christ to everyone, providing unique insights and tailor-made applications for each one. We are glad you requested this metaphysical sharing and hope that you find some of the ideas helpful in your daily spiritual journey, in your deeper digging in the books and in closer bonding with your Comforter and Pastor.
Enjoy!

Possible Sunday School Topics from CedarS by Steve Henn [& Warren Huff in bracketed italics]
for the Christian Science Bible lesson on “Substance” for Sunday, March 15, 2009

[First, I apologize for delaying this email till today. I was waiting for an email from TMCYouth to include this link to you about our upcoming Midwest Spiritual Activist Summit near St. Louis on May 8-10, 2009. (See April ’09 CSJ back cover.) Please support this gathering in every way you can and encourage Sunday School students and young people ages 12-30 to attend. Next, let’s debunk the false world beliefs and handle the superstitions surrounding today, Friday the 13th. By 7am on the last Friday the 13th (in February) I was already well aware of the need to handle all unlucky “group think” about Friday the 13th because I’d already had a minor accident, was about to miss my flight, and had left my valuable GPS at the ticket counter on the wrong side of a Security line that was the length of a football field! I firmly said “No way!” to the aggressive argument of a control other than God and refused to be worried or “ungrateful in advance” about missing my right connection and the seemingly certain loss of a valuable possession that expressed my identity. I acknowledged the truth of the 4 letters on the CedarS T-shirt that I was wearing (and am wearing today): IM4U (which is shorthand for “Thus saith the Lord … I am for you!” Ezek. 36:6-9) Knowing that “The great I am; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving and eternal” was for me calmed me right down. (S&H 587:5) “Understanding the control which Love held over all,” (S&H 514:26) I felt led to ask a TSA Security Guard, who “happened” to be just rotating off duty, to walk through security and retrieve my GPS. Within a minute he had returned with it and sent me effortlessly sprinting with bags in tow the quarter mile to my gate which was just boarding the flight that I needed to make. Needless to say I was delighted that: Friday the 13th, like every day, was “my lucky day”; and, that “There is no involuntary action.” (See S14, S&H 187:22, and Section 4 brackets below.)]

Golden Text:
In what ways is faith the “substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”? What examples in life can your students come up with of things that we don’t need to see before we know they will happen? (think of the sunrise; the railroad tracks not converging in the distance; turning on a light switch; …) Can we think of goodness in the same way? Are we confident that good is in our life before we see it? How about health? Freedom? Ability? What lens do we need to view our experience through in order to see this true substance before it may be evident to our material eyes?

Responsive Reading:
What qualities make up the substance that is faith; or the faith that is substantial? (Refer to the MET for this week to get some ideas – also look inside the RR to find the qualities expressed – “he that cometh to God must believe). What qualities did Abraham, Moses, and Christ express inside their faith?

[I love the insight that (through all his Egyptian confrontations, plagues, and 40 years of wandering in the desert) “by faith Moses … endured, as seeing him who is invisible.” (Hebrews 11:24-27)  When do you need more endurance? To finish strong in a long race, game or season? To complete a hard homework assignment, household chore or paper without dragging and complaining? To stick with a commitment to help someone when they or the situation becomes difficult without becoming difficult yourself? To demonstrate that spiritual supply can outlast an extended economic downturn? Mrs. Eddy offers the insightful hint that inspired thought is what enables us to see the invisible and so to endure. (see S&H 573:4) Gratitude is another key ingredient of spiritual vision and endurance that was often promoted by my 12th grade Sunday School teacher, Miss Mary Kessler: “Gratitude outlaws blindness to present good.” What present good are you blind to that would give you more endurance if were you to but glimpse its spiritual substance? Remember to pray for and claim “the instinct that can tell that God is on the field, although He seems invisible.” CS Hymnal 86:2 Note that the invisibility theme continues in B3, B4, S1, S2, … ]

Section 1:
How can the Word (which was God) be the thing that made everything “that was made”? Whatever God, Spirit says is what exists. What does that mean? Consider a parallel example – when someone with authority speaks a command, that command happens. What is God speaking about us every moment of every day?

Section 2:
If we are made in God’s image, we must be good. Can we then “be made perfect by the flesh?” What are the results of reverting back to a material creation if we are already spiritually created? By contrast, what is the reward of living our true heritage? What is the result of being good, the way we were made? What blocks us from being good?

[Doesn’t it seem silly to keep gaining what must be lost? Science & Health citation #7 says: “whatever is learned through material sense must be lost.” S&H 312:1 Have you seen the current TV show called “Biggest Loser”? It ends each week with a weigh-in of overweight contestants to see who gets sent home because he or she lost the least amount of weight. In Science & Health citation #6 Mrs. Eddy cites some unexpected heaviness that “weighs against our course Spiritward.” S&H 307:23 Stop consenting to the weight gain of allowing “every sin, and supposed material pain and pleasure (to) seem normal”! What sins, pains and pleasures are weighing you down by seeming normal? What pains do people expected as usual after lots of physical activity or a workout? (None, for the spiritual idea that you are!) What body types and genders does “the media” make it seem the norm to worship and lust after? (None, for the spiritual idea that you are!) What supposed pleasures of the body are made to seem normal? (None, for the spiritual idea that you are!) “The pleasant sensations of human belief, of form and color, must be spiritualized, until we gain the glorified sense of substance as in the new heaven and earth, the harmony of body and Mind. … In our immature sense of spiritual things, let us say of the beauties of the sensuous universe: ‘I love your promise; and shall know, some time, the spiritual reality and substance of form, light, and color, of what I now through you discern dimly; and, knowing this, I shall be satisfied.'” Misc. 86:18 and 87:6]

Section 3:
How does Jesus heal? B12 says “great multitudes” came unto him and “he healed them”. Wow. How can we do the same? Look to S10 and S12 for Mrs. Eddy’s answers.
What do we gain from these ideas that can make us better healers? How willing are we to heal “great multitudes” beyond our own comfortable circle of friends?

Section 4:
What do you do when things get rough? Consider B13, “my strength faileth me.” and B16, “even we ourselves groan within ourselves”. What can we do, then, when our strength fails or when we want to groan? (look at B14, S14 – the final sentence, S15) Remember B15 “where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
What are the treasures before our eyes at each moment?

[What things sometimes happen to us that seem beyond our control? A long Security line or a traffic jam? An involuntary sneeze? An allergic reaction to pollen? A heredity-blamed disease, short-coming or false attraction? A loss of supply due to market conditions? All these things and more can be healed by accepting and applying Mrs. Eddy’s one-liner: “There is no involuntary action.” (S14)-S&H 187:22 We can and should promptly and persistently refuse to give our consent to any and all actions that do not come from “Mind …the source of all movement.” (S17) – S&H 283:4]

Section 5:
[From CedarS MET] “…make a list of all the “knowing” words and phrases in this section (for example, renewing of mind, prove, understand/ing, etc). What is it that causes us to “know” substance? What is the result of “knowing” substance? How can that help us in our athletic contests, on our tests, with our girlfriends, boyfriends and regular friends, with our family, with our finances?

Section 6:
Can you imagine how aggressive was the picture in front of Jesus in the synagogue? There was a man yelling at him. How did Jesus respond? Do we respond as effectively when error yells at us – whether it be in the form of an illness, injury, or another person who ‘just doesn’t like me’? Make a list of the qualities Jesus expressed when healing this man. Consider how your students can bring those qualities into their daily lives. What might the impact be on their lives and the lives of others around them? Where does true authority lie?

Section 7:
Not many of us have “silver and gold” to spare – but what we do have, are we willing to give it? What, other than money, do we have to give others whether we know them or not? Not only did Jesus heal…his followers did too. What does Mrs. Eddy tell us we can do in order to heal effectively? What can your students do to be true men and women of substance, true healers?

[If you would like to work with a cast of students from your Sunday School to put on a dramatic, contemporary-language reenactment of the healing of the lame man and of Peter and John’s boldness to persist in sharing the Christ even when threatened, you may wish to click here for a possible script. At the end of the script are ways to apply this to one of Mrs. Eddy’s favorite mottos that she hung over the door to her room in her various residences: “Do right and fear not.” How did Peter and John live up to this motto? How did Mrs. Eddy live up to it as an adult and as a girl? It’d be great to allow time to ask if anyone in the class could retell how Mary Baker as a young girl in her one-room school stood up to a much older and larger bully who tried to make her and other students drink muddy water out of a hollowed-out cucumber. How can you stand up to bullies as well as to peer pressure and so live up to the motto to “Do right and fear not”? How can we be more like Peter and John–ready to freely share the priceless gift of Christ healing and “the sunlight of Truth that invigorates and purifies”? S&H 162:4 The passage in marker 28 of Science and Health (p. 162:16) is preceded by one of my favorite paragraphs that defines some of the terms used in (S28): “Christian Science brings to the body the sunlight of Truth, which invigorates (refreshes, revitalizes, stimulates, enlivens, energizes, animates, rejuvenates, strengthens) and purifies (cleanses, disinfects, sanitizes, decontaminates, filters). Christian Science acts as an alterative (a medicinal plant that causes a gradual beneficial change in the body, usually through improved nutrition and elimination, without having any marked specific action OR A medicine or treatment which gradually induces a change, and restores healthy functions without sensible evacuations), neutralizing error with Truth. It changes the secretions (emissions, discharges, oozings), expels humors (4 Medieval ones to be balanced: “blood, yellow bile, phlegm, black bile” (V.C.U. course materials on Chaucer), dissolves tumors (growths, cancers, lumps, swellings), relaxes rigid muscles (“thought-forces”), restores carious bones to soundness. The effect of this Science is to stir (rouse, wake up, budge, shift, get up, revive) the human mind to a change of base (basis, foundation, origin, heart, starting point), on which it may yield to the harmony of the divine Mind.” S&H 162:4 What in your body or experience needs to be invigorated, purified or changed by the healing “sunlight of Truth”? Are we expecting and allowing Christian Science to relax any rigid thought forces around our camp and church organizations so that they flex their muscles with a stronger, more loving embrace of all members and visitors?]
