CedarS Camps Possible Sunday School Topics

by Merrill Boudreaux, CS, for the Christian Science Bible Lesson:

Is the Universe, Including Man, Evolved by Atomic Force?

June 15-21, 2015

P.S.S.T. Golden Text – Let us begin with a prayer of receptivity by reading together Hymn 119 from the Christian Science Hymnal*. God, Spirit, as the source of all gladness, is worthy to be praised. Ask students to prepare a gratitude list of things for which they are thankful.

P.S.S.T. Responsive Reading – What ideas and qualities of God are listed in the Responsive Reading as made by God?

  • Earth
  • World
  • Heavens
  • Waters in the heavens
  • Vapours
  • Lightnings
  • Rain
  • Wind

Why are the people blessed? That also includes you.

P.S.S.T. Section 1 – Read together Hymn 1 from the Christian Science Hymnal**. Look to this section of the Lesson as to why you should sing and declare the glory of God. What cause have you for celebration?

  • With God, Mind in your life
  • With God, Love in your life
  • With God, Spirit in your life

P.S.S.T. Section 2 – Are you precious to God? B5. Are all peoples of the universe precious to God? S7. Why is this so? Who is the source of the goodness of every idea? Did God create a material man or a mortal man? Since matter and Mind are opposites (S10) what is your history? (S12, lines 25-30). How long will you continue to develop? What are you called upon to adopt in citation S12, lines 25-30?

P.S.S.T. Section 3 – Read the Bible story in citation B10. Do you believe this? Read citations S15 and S16. Was this action in the Bible story a miracle or a natural governance of God who controls the entire universe? In whom does the natural power of the universe reside? Ask students to memorize citation S18.

P.S.S.T. Section 4 – Here is another proof of God’s control of the entire universe. Read the Bible story in citation B12 together [& in PS1 of CedarS online Met.] How did this result? S21. Are these healings occurring today as during Jesus’ time? S23. Why is this so? Because the Christ is still present with us and will ever be so. Share a recent Christian Science Sentinel and ask students to read aloud the testimonies of present day healings.

P.S.S.T. Section 5 – Read the Bible story in citation B16 [and possibly PS2 of CedarS online Met.] Is there any aspect of the universe that can avoid obeying God? Students can apply this Bible story specifically to any condition in their lives that appears inharmonious with an expectation of correction. Why is this so? What laws of the universe can they see that give a hint of the power of God to harmoniously organize the universe and its beings? How about the sunrise and sunsets, the seasons, the wind? Ask students to write a prayer treatment for a problem currently appearing in our world. For example, too little water out West or too much water in the South? Can they expect to see a healing? S28.

P.S.S.T. Section 6 – The salvation of God is not hidden. We can expect to see the evidence. B18. Where is the kingdom of heaven? Are you in it? What do you specifically reflect in citation S31 that can aid you in living a daily harmonious life? These truths are not distant but available to you at any moment, like right now. Read or sing aloud together Hymn 275 from the Christian Science Hymnal***. What applicable truths do you see that answer the question posed by the subject of this week’s Lesson Sermon?

*Hymn 119

Holy Spirit, source of gladness, Come with all Thy radiance bright; Lift all burdens and all sadness; O’er Thy children shed Thy light.

Let the Love that knows no measure, Now in quickening showers descend; Bring to us the richest treasure Man can wish or God can send.

Send us Thine illumination; Banish all our fears at length; Rest upon this congregation, Spirit of unfailing strength.

**Hymn 1

Be Thou, O God, exalted high; And as Thy glory fills the sky, So let it be on earth displayed, Till Thou art here and now obeyed.

***Hymn 275

Praise now creative Mind, Maker of earth and heaven; Glory and power to Him belong, Joy of the sun and skies, Strength where the hills arise, So let us praise with joy and song.

Ages have seen His might, Father we call His name; Nights of our mourning and sorrow end, Light blesses opened eyes, Joys like the dawns arise As we see Him our God and Friend.

Saviour from death is He; Life is our heritage; Mercy and goodness forever guide; Ours is the risen Christ, Daily we keep our tryst, And evermore in Love confide.
