[PSST: Silently cherish God’s creation, then share what was cherished, even those things not currently visible… (PSST 1)]

Possible Sunday School Topics for the Christian Science Bible Lesson

God the Only Cause and Creator – June 1-7, 2015

prepared by Merrill Boudreaux, CS pegasus6524@gmail.com

P.S.S.T. Golden Text – Who made you? Of what are you made? How many ideas did God make? How many of those ideas are good?

P.S.S.T. Responsive Reading – Please help students refer to the Exegesis of Genesis in Science & Health starting on page 502. One could spend the entire teaching time discussing the spiritual interpretation of creation found there.

P.S.S.T. Section 1 – As an inhabitant of the world, are you in awe of what God has created? Ask students to spend 3 – 5 minutes silently cherishing God’s creation, then share with each other what they cherished, even those things not currently visible to them (B4 & S4).

What is the hint in citation S3 about where inventions and discoveries come from?

P.S.S.T. Section 2 – Share with each other a song from camp: “I will call upon the Lord who is worthy to be praised….” What is the result of such praise? “I will be saved from mine enemies.” See Mary Baker Eddy’s statement about “I have no enemies” in Miscellaneous Writings 10:28 – 11:30.

P.S.S.T. Section 3 – Can God behold evil? Why not? Therefore can you behold evil? This does not mean hiding your head in the sand, but lifting up the suggestion of evil to behold “whatsoever things are true…” in citation B11.

How many causes are there? One. “Therefore there can be no effect from any other cause, and there can be no reality in aught which does not proceed from this great and only cause” (S11). Challenge yourself as to what is real when an individual appears to be your enemy. Because “The Science of Mind disposes of all evil” (S13). See also Miscellany 210:1-11.

P.S.S.T. Section 4 – Ask students to memorize from citation B15: “in him we live, and move, and have our being.” This is a prayer treatment which opens thought to receive the solution to whatever enemy may be plaguing one.

P.S.S.T. Section 5 – How would you answer Philip in citation B19? That is, where can you look to find Our Father and the relationship to that which God created? See The Lord’s Prayer and its spiritual interpretation in Science & Health 16:20 – 17:15.

P.S.S.T. Section 6 – Read together citation B22. Read also citation S23. What are you called upon to do as one who participates in church? Talk together about what it means to “…disentangle the interlaced ambiguities of being…” in citation S25. Can being be ambiguous? Or, does it only appear so when one is using the physical senses to assess one’s being?

What happens when one uses spiritual sense? We see “…Mind, controlling every effect…” (S26). Read together the answer to the question “What is Mind?” in Science & Health 469:13-24.

P.S.S.T. Section 7 – What does “manifold” mean in citation B23? Many. Read together Psalm 139:17,18. God’s thoughts about you and to you are as manifold as all the grains of sand on all the shores of all the seas/oceans in the world.

So back to our initial questions in the Golden Text. Read the definitive answer in the Science & Health portion of this section.

Read together Hymn 317 from the Christian Science Hymnal.

Hymn 317:

Still, still with Thee when purple morning breaketh,

When the bird waketh, and the shadows flee,

Fairer than morning, lovelier than the daylight,

Dawns the sweet consciousness, I am with Thee.

Alone with Thee, amid the changing shadows,

Solemn the hush of nature, newly born;

Alone with Thee, in breathless adoration,

In the calm dew and freshness of the morn.

So shall it ever be in the bright morning,

When hearts awaking see the shadows flee,

O, in that hour, and fairer than the dawning,

Rises the glorious thought, I am with Thee.
