Pycl #1: Notice Love speaking to you! Mindfully expand your demonstration repertoire!
Love is one of the synonyms that we are most likely to feel. There are so many wonderful and comforting statements of truth in the Bible and in Mrs. Eddy's writings, but this lesson helps us see that these statements will stay in the realm of a "comforting thought" unless we put them to work through demonstration. (See Christie's "action" laws and statements of truth in the Met this week). If we don't feel a certain statement of truth, for example the well-known: "Divine Love always has met, and always will meet, every human need.", it may just be a statement that we resent because we don't see it unfolding in our experience. It looks like empty words! So how can we take these beautiful statements and laws and recognize their present activity in our lives—because they are at work in every one of our lives! My eight-year-old and I have been working on this for a few weeks now, so we have a couple of ideas you may be able to use as a springboard for other thoughts in Sunday School. One way is tried and true: dig deep for real gratitude. Gratitude makes good visible to us by acknowledging the good that we already see, no matter how small it may be. The more we do this, the broader a view of good we tend to get. Gratitude might start as gratitude for things, maybe then it will expand into gratitude for spiritual good—and real gratitude for Love itself. Another simple way to expand our repertoire of demonstration is to notice how God is speaking to us. We begin by acknowledging how God speaks to us in little ways—doing a chore willingly, making your bed, not whining when you have to complete an assignment—even brushing your teeth or going for a walk can be an example of listening to Principle or Soul—as we do it mindfully. By acknowledging Love's voice in these little ways, we start to notice Love around us in bigger ways—we start to really see the activity of Love in our lives. No one is expecting us to instantly become totally prayerful every minute, but this is how we start to really feel Love's presence, and that can only be a wonderful thing that makes us really happy! Maybe as a class you can collect some ideas about how to do this in the coming week. Can you touch base next week as you think about this process?

Pycl #2: Do you have some qualities for the Love "train car" as part of the train that we started last week? This car should be overflowing, most kids can think of a lot of qualities that belong in this "car"! How do the Love qualities maybe make it an "engine" to move the qualities that you have in the Life and Truth "cars"? Look at how Love saved lives in this week's lesson—and "moved" those lives forward! (B15 and B20)

Pycl #3: What does it mean that, in part, the "starting point" of Science is that God is Love? (S1). In this passage Mrs. Eddy points out that "...God is Love, and therefore He is divine Principle." (Italics added.) I started thinking of it this way: Because God is Love, He then is divine Principle, source/law/righteousness. There is no source for being without Love; there is no true law without Love, and no righteousness without Love. That might sound obvious, but the New Testament is chock full of stories that criticize the pharisaical thinking that puts the letter of the law above loving our neighbor, it almost seems to be the life work of Jesus! So the law of Truth that man is not material underlies Christian Science healing, but the law of Love that man is created of Love, as an expression of Love, embraced in Love is how we feel the truth of that statement and put it into practice. That makes our understanding of Love the "starting point" for healing! Ask each pupil if there is something in their lives that they want to heal. Now work together to understand what the specific "starting point" of a treatment for that healing might be. What does it mean to start from the standpoint that God is Love? (She also states other things in citation S1 along with "God is Love"— so feel free to refer to that passage.)

Pycl #4: When is it most easy to obey someone? When we feel love for them! Probably all the kids would agree that obeying God is literally good for your health and happiness, but we still don't always do what we know God wants us to do. Do you think it's because we don't know God well enough as Love? (S8) What keeps us from really enjoying understanding God? Maybe the idea that it takes too much effort and there are too many other fun things to do? Think of ten ways that we "know" God/Love in daily life and how those ways make our life better, more fun, happier.

Pycl #5: Why would it be that you can't really love God if you hate someone around you? (Citation S14 echoes this theme from the Responsive Reading citation from 1st John.) Ask the kids what this Bible passage (quoted here) really means to them. Do they have authentic thoughts about this? It is sometimes hard to see the true nature of man; material sense really messes up our view. But if we don't make the effort that it takes to do this, we can hardly claim that we have the discernment to spiritually understand how to truly love God who is Himself Spirit and spiritual. How do we sharpen our spiritual senses so we see Love represented in everyone?

Pycl #6: Make a list of ways Love was demonstrated! I love the story in citation B15 on so many levels. Here it is mostly employed to show how we should love our enemies. In what other ways was Love demonstrated? Make a list! How was Love's power shown? (There are many answers to this!) Is there something symbolic in this story that can help us when we feel like our problems are so huge that they are an "army" surrounding us on all sides? How can we "open our eyes" so we see those "chariots of fire" that are surrounding us? Why was the army blinded? Why do we sometimes feel blind to Love and the power of Love?

Pycl #7: Love breaks every human law that needs to be broken. Citation B5 shows us Love breaking the "unbreakable" law of death! If it is a law that can be broken, is it really a divine law? What laws can we find in this week's lesson that demonstrate the power of Love?
