PSST Golden Text – Why is God great, and why are we to declare that He is so?

PSST Responsive Reading - Throughout the Responsive Reading, take a moment to acknowledge what God's jobs are and what our jobs are. What do you notice about the actions given to God? What do you notice about the actions given to man? What does it mean for the Lord to live in truth, judgment and righteousness? Is not God everywhere? How can He live in anything?

PSST Section 1 - How is Truth like a fortress? How is a refuge or place of protection a reflection of the nature of Truth? In what ways does Truth protect? How does our understanding of Truth improve our understanding of God? What does Mrs. Eddy mean about Truth being independent of doctrines and time-honored systems? What doctrines or time-honored systems do we unwittingly put our faith in? How are we tempted to follow the seemingly more comfortable path of cold conventionality? What, in this day and age, does it really mean to be a thinker?

PSST Section 2 - Why does Elijah ask for the woman to make him food first? Is it selfish of Elijah? What does it require of the woman to be obedient to Elijah's direction before she continues in her way of preparing for death? What word is truth? What does it mean to live by the words that proceed from God's mouth? How does that connect to spiritual causation? How does Truth relate to comfort? Is Truth ever comforting? Those who know the Truth, what role do they have to play in comforting their fellow man?

PSST Section 3 - How does Truth respond to error? How does Truth respond to those who have seemingly erred? Is it bad form for Jesus to dine with Zacchaeus? Those who were present when Jesus declared he would eat with Zacchaeus certainly thought so. What does Jesus teach us by his example there? Who is Zacchaeus? How should we respond to our neighbors? Which of your students has had the opportunity to reach out to someone the way Jesus does here? Consider with your students all the ways that Jesus rejected the creeds, ceremonies, rituals, or traditions of his time. What is he showing us by pushing so forcefully against such dogmatic thinking? What dogmas must we be careful of following today? What tries to creep its way into our own practice even of Christian Science that could be ritual, creed, or dogma in disguise? In response to these, how do we know when we have found the way of Truth?

PSST Section 4 - What must we do to be Jesus' true disciples? What is the word that we must continue in? What responsibilities do we carry as Jesus' disciples? Have we considered what it means to truly follow his example? What small ways each day can we make steps towards healing the sick, cleansing lepers, raising the dead, and casting out devils? How can we freely give? What can we freely give?


PSST Section 5 - Is there any age or era for Truth's supremacy? Is there any reason that Jesus' era was filled with so much healing? How can we see the reinstatement of primitive Christianity today? How can we be part of that movement? How can we demonstrate Christian Science with confidence? Where in our experience does Truth seem to be surprising, and what can we do to catch our thought before being tricked into thinking that Truth is an unnatural surprise? What must we do to improve our confidence in the reality of harmony and unreality of discord? Have your students prayed for small things? Are there small things they can demonstrate their understanding of Christian Science with?

PSST Section 6 - What must we all study? Why must we study? How does study bring us closer to the understanding of Truth? What qualities are required of the diligent student? How can we apply those qualities to our practice of Christian Science – and vice versa? Is it our job to change anything? If we are not to change Truth, what must our prayers declare or reflect? As a result of effective prayer, what is it that really changes? What does man's real existence as a child of God look like? What must that feel like? Can your students describe that existence? Is it in conflict with their own teenage desires? How can existence as a child of God actually support and bless all of their current hopes and dreams?
