P.S.S.T. Golden Text – What is a prophet? How many prophets can your students identify? What is the role of the prophetic word as stated in the Golden Text? It is as light shining in dark places, like truth being spoken to error. Read together in Science and Health vii: 1-26. What is your role as a watchful shepherd, and as a future pioneer? How can you best prepare to be a receiver of the light? See S&H 495: 25-19.

P.S.S.T. Responsive Reading (RR) – Are you alone in your quest for truth or the light to shine in your heart, your thought? What does the Responsive Reading tell you? What is, must be, the result of your search and application of the light of truth? Often when one receives a new insight or light on a subject he wants to share it, shouting from the rooftop, singing songs, dancing or some other declarations – maybe even shouting for praise. Where is a good opportunity in Christian Science church services for such declarations? This would be a good opportunity to prepare the class to attend a Wednesday Evening Testimony Meeting and give a testimony, or to write a testimony, article, or poem for publishing in the Christian Science periodicals. What is the promise given in verse 1 in the RR? Therefore, be assured and not afraid.

P.S.S.T. Section 1 – As a seeker of the light, what role does darkness have for you? Is it possible for darkness to exist where light exists? Who has created the light? B-1 and S-2.

Is light permanent? Can it ever be extinguished? What does Christian Science do as a bringer of light to mankind? S-2. Look up the words on the internet to the children’s gospel song, “Let it shine.” It includes the words, “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine…” Share it with the class.

P.S.S.T. Section 2 – Which three prophets are mentioned in citation B-5? What do you students know about each of them? What about in citation B-6? What was Moses called on to do when he had received the light? Think about his investigating the burning bush while in the wilderness. See Exodus 3: 1-7,10. What did Moses therefore do? S-6.

Today, whatever oppresses or enslaves man is not legitimate. S-9. Ask students what they think man’s rights are. Look on the internet to find the Four Freedoms declared by President Franklin Roosevelt. Are these freedoms still legitimate today? These Four Freedoms bring harmony to mankind. Harmony is the result of light shining on my darkened thought. Perhaps this is an opportunity for students to write a prayer treatment for an issue of darkness apparent in their community.

P.S.S.T. Section 3 – Use this section to aid in writing the prayer treatment. Ask students to identify three absolute statements of light or truth they can use in their prayer treatment. What is your divine right and the divine right of all mankind stated in S-16?

P.S.S.T. Section 4 – Read together the story in citation B-15. How do you think Lazarus felt upon being raised from the dead? How about his sisters? How about the others who were gathered there? A reason to shout, don’t you think? Another example of light and darkness’ inability to exist together. See citations S-20, S&H 474: 31-2 (to 2nd .). Do students know of others whom Jesus raised from the dead? Jairus’ daughter (Matthew 9: 18-26), the Nain widow’s son (Luke 7: 11-16). Read together Hymn 282 from the Christian Science Hymnal (printed below). This could be a song any of those three would have appreciated following their being raised.

P.S.S.T. Section 5 – What is it your Father’s good pleasure to give you? B-18. What is the Kingdom? See S&H 590: 11; see also S&H 587: 25. Do you want more of heaven in your current life? How can you get it? B-21. Read together Hymn 460 from the Christian Science Hymnal Supplement (printed below). When is the accepted time to walk in the light of truth, harmony (S-23)? You get to choose whether to hold on to the symbols of discord and decay or the light and harmony of Spirit? Which do you prefer?

P.S.S.T. Section 6 – Read together citation B-24. What is the message? Memorize and declare – in you is no darkness at all. I have the light of life and love. What does Christian Science bring to mankind? S-27. Conclude with reading together the Aaronic Blessing from Numbers 7: 24-26.

Hymn 282:

Praise the Lord, ye heavens, adore Him;

Praise Him, angels, in the height;

Sun and moon, rejoice before Him,

Praise Him, all ye stars of light;

Praise the Lord, for He hath spoken,

Worlds His mighty voice obeyed;

Laws that never shall be broken

For their guidance hath He made.

Praise the Lord, for He is glorious;

Never shall His promise fail;

God hath made His saints victorious,

Sin and death shall not prevail.

Praise the God of our salvation;

Hosts on high, His power proclaim;

Heaven and earth, and all creation,

Laud and magnify His name.
