[PSST: Accept the universal promise of Christian Science! (GT) Pay attention to the right rule-maker! (3)]
Possible Sunday School Topics for the Christian Science Bible Lesson on;

“Christian Science”

for Sunday, June 26, 2016

PSST Golden Text (GT): What promise is being spoken of here? What sort of promise has been made to us? Who else is included in this promise? How does this idea of a universal promise impact your daily practice of Christian Science?

PSST Responsive Reading (RR): Look at this responsive reading from two vantage points: God’s role and our role; in this passage those are represented by a promise (God’s role) and faith (our role). What are the qualities of the promise? What are the attributes of the promiser? How do this promise and promiser cause our faith to be strengthened?

PSST Section 1: What are the rights of man? How can we fully recognize and acknowledge them? Give your students time to think briefly about these, make a list to keep track of them; and then scrap that first list as the ‘obvious’ list - then, go deeper, think about the next-level-down rights of man; ones that may not be obvious at first, but which are essential to our practice and understanding of Christian Science. To support their Biblical knowledge, ask them to find examples or evidence of the rights they are uncovering in the Bible – start with the citations from the first section, move to the rest of the lesson, and even consider opening the discussion up to the whole Bible: where are the rights of man unfolded in the Bible?

PSST Section 2: How “old” is the Science of Being? It was discovered roughly 150 years ago, and demonstrated over 2000 years ago; but was Science ever new, even in those ages? Why must we recognize the timeless nature of Science? Think of how it relates to the scientific principles behind Mathematics – are they ever new?

PSST Section 3: What rules should we follow, and what rules should we boldly break? Look at Jesus’ example – what rules did he follow, and what rules did he break? Consider Mrs. Eddy’s example in the same light. Then look at your own week – how often are you paying attention to the right rule-maker?

PSST Section 4: What tricks does mortal mind try to play on us? Once we know what set of rules we are supposed to follow, mortal mind attempts to use the set of rules we have chosen to follow against us – binding us into seemingly impossible situations. What are some examples of those types of situations that we face today? How can we respond more scientifically, the way Jesus did with the adulterous woman?

PSST Section 5: How does Jesus’ interpretation of the law ultimately result in a simplification of the whole law? How does this new view of law help us to further understand how to live our own lives? How does it help us to navigate the difficult scenarios established in Section 4? What looks different in our lives if we follow these two great commandments; what looks the same? How are our lives improved by following this ultimate law? How are our morals shaped by this law?

PSST Section 6: What is the Comforter? Why do we need the Comforter? Can we get by just fine without it? What demands does the Comforter place on us? What promises can we expect the Comforter to fulfill? How does this Comforter impact our view of Christian Science? Who is this Comforter sent to comfort?
