PSST - PSST: Think spiritually about how to establish a firm foundation on which to stand every day

Steve Henn, St. Louis, MO

[PSST: Think spiritually on how to establish a firm foundation to stand on every day.]
Possible Sunday School Topics for the Christian Science Bible Lesson on;

“Ancient and Modern Necromancy, alias Mesmerism and Hypnotism, Denounced”
for November 20-26, 2017

By Steve Henn, C.S. St. Louis, Missouri steven.henn@gmail.com

PSST Golden Text: What is wisdom? Where does it come from? Why/how does it keep us safe and peaceful?

PSST Responsive Reading: Who did God choose to spread His word of promise and healing? Was this a good choice? How often do our plans match God's plans? What can we do to be more in line with what God has in store for us?
PSST Section 1: What does it mean "to stand"? Why is that such an important and powerful pose? What do we need to have in place before we can stand with confidence in our own daily lives? Think practically, humanly; but also think spiritually - how do we establish a firm foundation on which we can stand every day? What can we do to prepare ourselves to distinguish between what wisdom is telling us, and what error is trying to suggest?
PSST Section 2: Why is it significant that we say Jesus was "tempted"? How would we approach our daily experiences differently if we saw all false thinking as merely suggestion or temptation? Are evil, bad, temporal thoughts ever ours? What about people who seem to do evil, bad, or temporal things - big or small? What happens if we see them as being tempted, rather than as having evil inside of them? How does Christ effectively combat these temptations? And how can we follow in his footsteps?
PSST Section 3: What is in a name? How is it that the seventy returned and healed through Jesus' name? Is this to be taken literally? What does "name" really mean in this context? And further, how does Jesus respond to these seventy when they return? What does it mean to know that their "names are written in heaven"? Where is heaven, and what would it mean if our names are also written there? For this discussion to be most effective, be sure to look up the true definition of "name" in this context.
PSST Section 4: How do we respond to suggestions of evil? When a "viper" attempts to attach itself to our thinking, how can we respond? What does it mean to follow good? Do we follow good before or after the protection that is promised? This section seems to be focused on the thinking of others, and how it cannot harm us - how do your students respond when it seems like negative things are being said about them? How should we respond?
PSST Section 5: Who is the woman in the Apocalypse? Who is the great red dragon? Work to understand these important symbols - for you'll remember that "Spiritual teaching must always be by symbols" (S&H 575:13). How is it that God provides rest "on every side"? How can we gain the confidence of this passage to know that we are always protected from error of every kind? What does it mean to "know thyself", and what is the benefit of such knowledge? How can we learn to know ourselves better on a daily basis?
PSST Section 6: Where do we originate? How powerful are God's thoughts regarding our true spiritual being? Why should we rejoice in the Lord? How does our relationship with God bring about peace? What is peace, and why would we want it? How does peace help us in our daily lives - socially, academically, economically, vocationally, and spiritually?
