P.S.S.T. Golden Text (GT) and Responsive Reading (RR) – Read together Hymn 218 from the Christian Science Hymnal (words printed here):

Hymn 218 (219, 220, 542):

O Life that maketh all things new, The blooming earth, the thoughts of men; Our pilgrim feet, wet with Thy dew, In gladness hither turn again.

From hand to hand the greeting flows, From eye to eye the signals run, From heart to heart the bright hope glows, The seekers of the Light are one:

One in the freedom of the truth, One in the joy of paths untrod, One in the heart's perennial youth, One in the larger thought of God; —

The freer step, the fuller breath, The wide horizon's grander view; The sense of Life that knows no death, — The Life that maketh all things new.

Read also from the Responsive Reading:

“…he be not far from every one of us: for in him we live, and move, and have our being;” (Acts 17:27-28).

Read together Hymn 81 from the Christian Science Hymnal (words printed here):

Hymn 81

God is with me, gently o'er me Are His wings of mercy spread; All His way made plain before me, And His glory round me shed. Safely onward Shall my pilgrim feet be led.

God is with me, and His presence Shall my perfect guidance be, Till my heart that peace inherit God alone can give to me. His all-power Helps and heals, and sets me free.

What are key takeaways from these hymns and Responsive Reading passage?

  • God is with us
  • We can never be without our God
  • Our every thought and action is because of Him
  • He is not mine exclusively, but is all of ours
  • God is alive for evermore
  • Therefore….

P.S.S.T. Section 1 – What have you seen of God’s glory and greatness?

What scriptural stories speak to you of God’s glory and greatness?

  • Perhaps Moses leading the children of Israel and finding water and providing food.
  • Perhaps Jesus feeding the 5,000 and raising Lazarus from the grave.

What name did God tell Moses to tell Pharaoh He is to be called? “I AM THAT I AM”

What do you think those words imply? God is all, there is no other, God knows, sees all. We are all included in the God who made everyone – no one is left out. God even made Pharaoh and governs him.

God is the very life of all of us (Citation S2, SH 289:32).

Citation S5 states: “The great I AM made all ‘that was made’. Hence man and the spiritual universe coexist with God” (SH 267:10).

P.S.S.T. Section 2 – Since God is light (your light), there is no darkness or darkness in you. Why? To light all is light. When light appears, darkness disappears. There never was or can be darkness in light.

The same can be said for God as your strength, therefore no weakness – either in action or in thinking. What did this knowledge of God as light and strength aid Moses to do in Citations B4 and B5 (Exodus 13 & 14)?

What are the ‘onlys’ about God stated by Mary Baker Eddy (MBE) in Citation S8?

  • Only Life
  • Only substance
  • Only Spirit
  • Only Soul
  • Only intelligence of the universe
  • Only intelligence including man

Therefore…

P.S.S.T. Section 3 – What are the scriptural commands in the Bible portion of this section?

  • Walk in the ways commanded by the Lord
  • Live
  • It may be well with you
  • Prolong your days as you possess the land
  • Remember God and what He has done for you
  • Trust in the Lord, and do good

Look to the Science & Health portion of this section and read what MBE tells us about being fed by God. More than physical food, how else does God feed us?

  • Understanding
  • Inspiration
  • Strengthening
  • Harmony
  • Reminding us that we are inseparable from God

P.S.S.T. Section 4 – What law was given by Moses (Citation B10)? The Ten Commandments.

What grace was shown by Christ Jesus? Patience, meekness, love, and good deeds

What admonitions (teachings) are given by Jesus in Citation B12?

What is the result of seeking and seeing good and not evil in Citation B13?

How long will you live? How long will your brother man live?

P.S.S.T. Section 5 – What is the significance about the word ‘condemn’ in Citation B14? What is the guidance provided in Jesus’ teaching to us in this scriptural story?

Read together Citation S22 (SH 234:9): “We should become more familiar with good than with evil,….”

What is it that Christian Science promotes as stated in Citation S24 (SH 102:31-2)? What role does affection and life have in a life at home and in the community, both in quality and quantity?

P.S.S.T. Section 6 – Read together Citation S27 (SH 246:27-28): “Life is eternal. We should find this out, and begin the demonstration thereof.”

Read together Hymn 136 from the Christian Science Hymnal (words printed here):

Hymn 136 (& 501)

I love Thy way of freedom, Lord, To serve Thee is my choice, In Thy clear light of Truth I rise And, listening for Thy voice, I hear Thy promise old and new, That bids all fear to cease: My presence still shall go with thee And I will give thee peace.

Though storm or discord cross my path Thy power is still my stay, Though human will and woe would check My upward-soaring way; All unafraid I wait, the while Thy angels bring release, For still Thy presence is with me, And Thou dost give me peace.

I climb, with joy, the heights of Mind, To soar o'er time and space; I yet shall know as I am known And see Thee face to face. Till time and space and fear are naught My quest shall never cease, Thy presence ever goes with me And Thou dost give me peace.

Peace and long life to you!
