Mine the G.E.M. of redemption and immortality from a monologue by Tabitha’s best friend as shared by Ken and Sue Cooper this week. (See Responsive Reading, B18—Acts 9:36-41, S24)

[Ken writes:] “When we are married to what we love to do, what we do blossoms and blesses all. Tabitha was an active Christian, — her love for others shone forth in her life, and was a beacon to her friends. Her actions were the soul of joy which she shared so readily. Peter understood that Soul is immortal, always expressing itself, and when he spoke to Tabitha it was with the same confidence that Jesus had when he said “Lazarus, come forth”. “Tabitha, arise.” Life, Soul, was ever-present. As Mary Baker Eddy says. “The immortality of Soul makes man immortal”, and in that immortality we have all the joys and fruits of immortal Life (S24, SH 306:7). We all share in the unbounded radiance of SOUL, a marriage made in heaven!

The monologue "Tabitha" is as presented by the best friend of Tabitha, a heartfelt testimony in praise of Tabitha's Christian life, and as proof that we are the "Thy holy people, the redeemed of the Lord" (Isaiah 62:12, Responsive Reading).

Mine the G.E.M. of Mind-cure medicine—Cobbey Crisler on Psalms 19:7, 8 (S14, 266:2)
the perfect medicine of Mind:

“Read Psalms chapter 19:7-9 and you will discover there are quality controls as far as God’s medicine is concerned: all the things you would want to see on the label. Look at the words “perfect,” “sure,” right,” “pure,” “clean,” and “true,” which has the meaning in Hebrew of stable. You want a stable product. You want a clean product. You want it pure. You want it right. You don’t want the wrong remedy. You want it sure. You want it perfect.”—[“rejoicing the heart” (Ps. 19:8, S14, 266:2)]

Mine the joyous G.E.M. of serving – to the delight of God’s soul! —Cobbey on Isa. 42:1 (B12)
“Chapter 42:1, in a prophesy of a servant who should come, the “elect of God” who would have “the Spirit of God upon him.” You will notice in Verse 7 (and Isaiah 61: what the assignment of this servant would be, “To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, [and] them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.”

Isn’t it interesting that the prophet Isaiah foresees this prophesied individual in the terms of “a servant” when the Greek word most often in the New Testament for healing has the classical Greek meaning of “to serve.” You remember how Jesus defined his ministry in those terms, “I came not to be ministered unto but to minister” [Matthew 20:28; Mark 10:45]. Healing is serving by definition in Greek. Serving whom? God and man.”

Mine the G.E.M. of sifting plus thoughts of love & minus thoughts of incurability for salvation’s “expected end”—with your “soul as a watered garden” – 100% precious, 0% vile!
Cobbey Crisler on Jeremiah 15:18 thru 31:12 (leading up to citation B13, Jer. 31:1, 12)

“Verse 18 in Chapter 15, “Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable?” Look at the prescription in Verse 19 “If you return, then will I bring thee again, [and] you will stand before me.” Look at this for a mental sifting of plus and minus. “If thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth.” How much do you and I reflect or image forth God’s mouth or words? Remember what James [3.10] says, “Out of the same mouth proceedeth both blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.” That’s what James wrote in his epistle. Notice the control of thought and therefore, our communication here. If we take forth the precious from the vile, we will be more like God now. If we want the word to become flesh, we must conform to what that word is. It’s indivisible. It does not have part precious and part vile in it, nor should man.

17th Chapter of Jeremiah, Verse 14, “Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed.” There’s Jeremiah’s prayer. “Save me and I shall be saved.” The Anchor Bible points out that the word “salvation” as used in the Old Testament is often used in terms of a not-guilty verdict in court. Salvation is often used in the Old Testament in terms that we would understand today as a not-guilty verdict in court.

The salvation of man would eventually include a verdict of not-guilty, or innocent. This is, of course, the entire theme of Job, his guilt or innocence.

Here is God being quoted, in Verse 12 Chapter 30 [of Jeremiah]. “Thus saith the LORD, thy bruise is incurable, and thy wound is grievous. [Verse 13] “There is none to plead thy cause [of innocence], that thou mayest be bound up: thou hast no healing medicines.”

In Verse 15, “Why do you cry for your affliction? Your sorrow is incurable.” Why? [Voice: “The multitude of your iniquity.”] That’s all. Just because of “the multitude of your iniquity.” There is the Bible definition of an incurable disease. It’s just up to us whether it’s incurable or not. Our outlook, our comprehension, and what we are going to do about the iniquity aspect of it. Moses was shown that man has just as much dominion over the serpent, symbolizing iniquity, as over the leprosy on his hand [symbolizing disease].

Verse 17 is God’s view of whether there is any incurability or not. “I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds.”

Religion has got to be practical, especially in our century. There’s no room for anything that’s not practical anymore. There are too many problems requiring solutions. Humanity in its history has run [from problems] long enough. Like Jacob ran for twenty years until he began to wrestle [Genesis 32. 24, 25]. Collectively mankind is wrestling now. As John Bunyan said about religion. “The soul of religion is the practical part.”

In Chapter 31, which is Jeremiah’s greatest chapter, he predicts the new covenant will come. He defines it. In Verse 3 he shows that the new covenant is definitely based on the comprehension of God as love. It’s that very “lovingkindness” that will draw all mankind to God for the solution of the world problems.”—[to make “their soul (spiritual sense) as a watered garden.”(Jer. 31:12)

Mine the G.E.M. of giving up old human views and putting on new, inspired views of everything human — Cobbey Crisler (& Geith Plimmer) on John 2:2-13 (B14)

“According to the Gospel of John, we have the first so-called miracle occurring "in Cana of Galilee.

John 2:2. "At a marriage." The symbolism of marriage is one that you see throughout the gospels. It seems to be something that suggests a higher concept of a unity of male and female than we would normally consider at an average-day event. It may be that John has this symbolism somewhat in mind when he introduces this and gives it such a prominent place.

John 2:3. Here is an encounter with "his mother." Here, Jesus says unto her, "Woman." That has often sounded to many very abrupt. But it has a generic context. Jesus is the only one in ancient literature, so far recovered, that ever addresses women in this way. It's almost as if he has a sense of womanhood behind him. Not, "What have I do with thee?" John 2:4, which is not a literal translation. It really is, "What is it to Me and to thee, Woman?" Perhaps these are trappings of an earthly concept of marriage. Is there something higher? We find that a ritualistic approach to this concept of marriage.

Even in John 1:6, where we find part of the institutionalized celebration, we have six "waterpots" sitting there with water. And now a new and higher meaning symbolically is being given to this whole event. The water was apparently transformed into wine— [W. by Christ’s spiritual sense of it as well as of manhood and womanhood.]

[W. In a lecture, British Christian Science lecturer Geith Plimmer, C.S., noted about the six waterpots that the number six symbolized everything in the human scene… He said that Christ Jesus set the standard for each of us that our thoughts of merely mortal or human womanhood and of merely mortal or human manhood need to be raised daily to the Soul (spiritual) sense of their highest level as Mary Baker Eddy defines them as: “BRIDE. Purity and innocence, conceiving man in the idea of God; a sense of Soul, which has spiritual bliss and enjoys but cannot suffer.” And “BRIDEGROOM. Spiritual understanding, the pure consciousness that God, the divine Principle, creates man as His own spiritual idea, and that God is the only creative power.”]

What we find in the next chapter or two of John is a series of giving up the old way of doing things for a new way. It's interesting to take an overview here. Not just to understand, which is a Latin concept, but to "over stand," which is a Greek concept. To look down at, over, and study the total picture that we have. In other words, the marriage of Cana is part of a series of things that all bring out the same thing.

We must give up the old and put on the new. Don't be hidebound in traditionalism,

Ecclesiasticism, ritualism, and things like this.

For instance, in John 2:13 you find the second sign. This word "sign," translated "miracle" in the Bible, does not mean "miracle." The Greek word is "semeion" often translated "miracle." Here is what Dodd says about this,

"Semeion" is not in essence a miraculous act, but a significant one, which for the seeing eye and the understanding mind, symbolizes eternal reality. It is the sign that one is often identified by. For Jesus it was the sign of works, results, not theory but results. Results follow what he said.”

Mine the G.E.M. of every ill cured by God’s ordered government of harmony at hand!
Cobbey Crisler on Matthew 4:
23 (B15):
Verse 23. And “healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.” Here are human problems that had defied solution, and Jesus solved them all based on his concept of theology, namely the kingdom. Remember a kingdom is not chaos. It’s an ordered government of heaven and harmony at hand.”

Mine the G.E.M. of following the Master’s method of clearing out funereal thought —Cobbey Crisler on Acts 9: 36-42 (B18) & Peter raising Tabitha who had died. (“Tabitha” YouTube)
[As a prequel to the raising of Tabitha, nearby] “at Lydda, Peter heals a man named Aeneas who for eight years had been paralyzed, unable to move. It didn’t take long for the news to get around that this kind of healing work was being accomplished by the early Christians [and for Tabitha’s friends to send for Peter].

“In a neighboring “town of Joppa we find a woman named Tabitha. … She had had an exemplary life, had done much good for many.” (See Acts 9:36) …

Acts 9:39 Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.

“Do you recall back in the narratives of the gospel where a similar situation occurred, and Peter was there? It was the raising of Jairus’ daughter… Do you remember when Jesus came into that environment that you could almost cut it into square blocks of moisture, the grief was so thick? There were paid mourners at that point. As a matter of fact, we are told that even the poorest individual was entitled to at least three instruments at the funeral service. You can imagine Jairus, being a ruler of the Synagogue, the extent of noise, and activity, and mourning that must have occurred at the passing of Jairus’ daughter.” [Clearly Peter remembered what Jesus did and followed the Master’s method—starting by clearing out the funereal thought of the mourners.]

Acts 9:40 But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up.

Acts 9:41 And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows, presented her alive.

Acts 9:42 And it was known throughout all Joppa;
